Fax-for-Free.de is a German site that lets you send 10 free sms per week (as well as free faxes) to German mobile phones. The site also covers Austria, Switzerland, France, Spain, Holland, England and the USA.
You have to register before you can use the service, but registration is simple and you don’t need to give a mobile phone number. Once you have activated your account, by clicking the link in an email you’ll receive, you can start sending free sms.
The free SMS is limited to a three sms a day, with a maximum of 10 free sms per week. We tested the serve to the UK and to Spain and both messages arrived with the one to the UK arriving quickly.
Your IP address is logged for security and to prevent abusive texts. We chose English as the language that we would like to receive emails in, however our email arrived in German. But apart from that the service seems to work well.
