textfree Lite is an app for the iPhone and iPod Touch that lets you send and receive free sms within the US. There is a paid version, textfree Unlimited, which costs $5.99 to purchase and comes without adverts and gives unlimited free sms.
The free version gives you 15 free sms per day with adverts. It will notify you if you’ve received an sms even if you don’t have the app open, and you get a unique username so people can text you to your iPhone or iPod Touch.
For the app to work on the iPod Touch you must be within a wifi zone.
Requires iPhone OS 2.2 or later.
